Hello, I found this site completely by accident - I don't know how on earth I missed it all these years. There are so many great VO artists participating
and I'm hoping to get to know some folks and pick up some tips and talk the biz that's been my biz (Radio and Voiceover) for over 30 years.
Started in radio in 1979 when I was 14 (had to be 14 to get the FCC 3rd Class Radiotelephone Operators Permit!). Began rolling religious tapes at a little Gospel/Country/Bluegrass station that was gracious enough to give a career-minded little kid a *start*, then moved on to top 40 for 18 years in Southern Pennsylvania, then on to rock for 14 years in Washington, DC where I was the midday jock for a number of years at DC101, and also Production Director there.
Along the way, but early on (when I was only eighteen), a mutual family friend introduced me to the late, great Stan Watt (of Exxon commerical fame) and he mentored me for awhile and really sparked my interest in Voiceover (as he said, for AFTER I got too old to be a Top 40 DJ!); and so after a long and relatively decent radio career - which stalled very suddenly when Clear Channel cut thousands of jobs back in '09 - here I am, finally trying to do what he said I should do!
I'm currently with a decent-sized agency run by an old friend and colleague of mine, and in the one whole month I've been with this agency, I've done a bunch of voiceovers for various clients and TV stations all over America (although not the 10 or 20 spots a day I would LIKE to do).
A slow start - to be sure - and technically I'm a "newbie" compared to some of the incredibly talented and busy voiceover artists I've read on here, but I'm hoping to pick up some more regular repeat-clients and perhaps a TV station or two before long.
Anyway, I really didn't intend to bore you all to tears and snores with my life-story in *book* form, but thought I'd be up-front and just wade into the crowd and introduce myself around.
Thanks for listening (reading)! Hope to *converse* with some of you soon.
Very cordially,
~Shock |

Funny how things seem to all *link* up in strange ways, making the world a small place, indeed: Philip hails from Scotland - I hail originally from Chambersburg, PA which is close to SCOTLAND, PA, and Fran hails from Nowhere, PA, which, wherever that is, is still relative by default. LOL.
Thanks again, I do plan to enjoy my time here

Funny, my husband spent half his childhood growing up right by Chambersburg - in Fayetteville, to be exact - where his parents still have a house, which I have visited a time or 5.
Welcome, Shock. Nice to have you here.

Welcome. You wouldn't happen to be the Rick Shockley I worked with at WKBO in the 70's? Last I knew he was in Florida. _________________ Gregory Best

Based upon your stated time line, I'm guessing you arrived there too late to have crossed paths with my old pal the Greaseman. _________________ Lee Gordon, O.A.V.

Hey Shock. Welcome!
DC-101 huh? You were probably there at the same time as my old friend Ann Dewig. I was at AAF in Boston at the time, she was the female image voice for the station....paired with yours truly. _________________ Wicked huge.....in India.

Hey Shock, welcome!
DC 101....as in "Da Greaseman" and of course, at one time, Howard Stern I presume?
A legendary station, at least in the 80s, as I remember it.
Actually the one NAB convention I attended was in D.C. in 1988.
I have a feeling you will feel right at home here |
