|
|
I have searched the archives, and followed to the best of my understanding, Soundgun's instructions.
I think everything is working, except I can't get the phone audio out of the recording chain without also taking out the level for my mic.
Using a Mackie 1202 and a JK Audio Hybrid phone patch
(I do phone patches rarely these days in case you're wondering why the confusion)
The Mic is plugged into Gain#3
The Line In on Gain #3 is routed to the "Send" on the Hybrid
The Aux Send #1 is routed to the "Caller" on the Hybrid
All faders are at Unity position (if I pan I lose the phone audio and the mic audio.) |

Which instructions of Georges are you referring to?
Pictures or drawings of what you are doing - speak a thousand words.
[If you are splitting a mic (or output) signal you change the impedance of the line level, and thusly reduce the gain levels 50%. Ohm's Law is at work here.] _________________ The Blog:

Acoustics are counter-intuitive. If one thing is certain about acoustics, it is that if anything seems obvious it is probably wrong.

Here are the instructions I'm referring to
1. Mixer mic input channel- Aux Send 1 turned up to unity
2. Aux Send 1 jack- patched to input of hybrid
3. Mixer mic/line input channel- output of hybrid
4. Leave Aux Send 1 knob DOWN on mixer channel with hybrid
5. Turn Aux Send 1 knob up or down to adjust your volume TO your caller.
6. Turn the mixer hybrid channel fader up or down to control volume FROM your caller. EDIT: Engage Alt 3/4 bus (MUTE) or pan to the right and only record the left channel, for example.
7. If caller needs playback, just turn up the Aux Send 1 knob on the channel your recording interface is plugged into on your mixer. If your mixer does NOT have an ALT 3/4 bus like the Mackies, make sure fader for the computer is turned down while recording, or you will have a feedback loop. |

Double check your work
THough this is a different product, this seems to be where George is trying to take you.
Use the Aux send MASTER to adjust the level out to the caller.
Use the Line Input level pot to adjust what comes FROM your caller.
NOTE too that the AUX1 on the Line level is turned down or off. _________________ The Blog:

The Line In on Gain #3 is routed to the "Send" on the Hybrid
The Aux Send #1 is routed to the "Caller" on the Hybrid. |
Rob, I'm not sure I understand this... it's sorta contradictory.
Just to be clear, you're supposed to route the Mackie's Aux send to "Send 1" on the hybrid, NOT "Caller".
"Caller" (ie. sound FROM the hybrid) should go to a free channel on the mixer, say, "Line In channel on #4". The fader on that channel should be turned DOWN so the audio from the caller doesn't go to the output (ie. the recording). Use the "Pre-fader SOLO" for monitoring the caller (adjust level using the "Gain" knob instead of the fader), and do the same for your mic channel in order to monitor yourself.[/i]
So, if you have your Mic signal on Channel #3, use the Aux Send on THIS channel alone. Then use the "Aux 1 Master" to give a good level for the caller to hear. It's a good idea to engage "Post" on the "Aux Master" if you do it like described above, because if the Aux is handled as "Pre Fader" while using "Pre Fader Solo" aswell on your Mic channel, you could actually forget to open the fader (the caller hears you fine even though the Mic fader is down) and nothing would be recorded! By using "Post" on the "Aux Master" the caller can't hear you before the Mic channel fader is turned up. _________________ Regards,

Yeah, thanks for your help with that , Mike.
Phone patches have always been a sore spot for me. I do them so rarely
that it takes way too long to do set up and testing, and becomes very
frustrating.
I'm still doing something wrong (not sure what) but I'm just going to go
with a Skype patch on Monday and have a Bluetooth headset as a backup. |

You are most very welcome. Anytime~
It may not be you, it could be how the board is routed. Those little boards sometimes don't use traditional pathways.
I have a problem with my Marantz Hi Fi that i use as a pre for a set of monitors. If I change the input selector on the Marantz from Aux to anything else, it knocks down the output of all my other monitors- IT makes no logical sense, but that's what is does. So, I don't listen to the radio that much from that unit.

bwaahaahaahaahaahaaahaaaha! And on a more serious note, I do phone patch almost daily and every now and then I screw myself by a slight change. But now I'm back to laughing about the itis. _________________ 006 member of the Sisterhood of the Traveling Mic. Bonded by sound.
