My macbook pro's (1 year old) fan loves to come on just as i'm getting ready to record something. I make a point to turn off any programs that I don't need while recording.
Anyone out there have any other ideas/advice to stop the fan from coming on as much?
Something in preferences with Energy Saver or something?
Thanks for listening! |

I have little personal experience with laptops, but I've read that keeping them as cool as possible helps, and one way to do that is to keep the bottom from coming in full contact with the surface you're working on. Find some hard rubber pucks or strips at least a half inch high to put your unit on to allow air to get to the bottom and that should keep it cooler.
I have noticed that with my Mac tower that some programs get the fans going for a little while but they usually calm down after a bit.

My wife puts her laptop on top of four little tea candle sconces (the little aluminum cups they come in) turned upside down. Works a charm. _________________ Corey "Vox Man" Snow

A couple things you could try:
Put the laptop up on a stand to aid in cooling. I use one of these: http://bit.ly/gIm77H
Look for a program called SMC Fan Control. It's a control panel add-on for your fans ... you can run them faster, slower, etc.
Or, do like I did and just move the laptop out of the booth. A few feet can make a big difference. I use a long-ish DVI cable to an external monitor in the booth, and bluetooth keyboard and mouse. Works like a charm. _________________ Bob Ransom
