Working on a huge list of words for an English language word engine - and am doing my initial sanity check on pronunications. There are a lot of obscure and archaic words in this particular list, so I am spending a lot of time with the dictionary. Here's one that I figured out the pronunciation for, but wondered about the definition.

Definition of GYNECOCRACY: political supremacy of women

— gy·ne·co·crat·ic \ˌgī-ni-kō-ˈkra-tik, ˌji-\ adjective

Origin of GYNECOCRACY

Greek gynaikokratia, from gynaik- + -kratia -cracy

First Known Use: 1612

If you live in the land of the Amazons and the like, it's a handy word to know.
