After a few frustrating days trying to figure this out with a Voices-supporter I've given up. Whenever I try to upload my new demos I get this:

"The filetype you are attempting to upload is not allowed."

Obviously they are regular mp3-files, under 2 mb's in size, there are no special characters or spaces in the file names, they are infact quite similar to the ones already there. I've tried everything, but get the error every friggin' time.

Anyone had that aswell, and what did you do to fix it??

I've had problems in the past, but assuming that you're using their requested 128/44.1 format, it might well be a browser issue. They state that they have some issues with Firefox, so as long as you're perfectly happy with the file format (and the name characters used) it may be worth trying a different browser to help isolate the problem.

I've had the same problem sporadically using Firefox, but was able to upload using IE.

I had a similar problem with libsyn (a podcast host) and it turned out that the file I was trying to upload was named .MP3 and not .mp3 (they've since corrected that boneheaded little bug). It's a long shot, but maybe that's the trouble you're having?

Also, what browser and OS are you using?

Thanks guys, good advice all around, however it didn't help.

I run both Firefox and IE8, no difference. OS is WinXP Pro SP3.
The filenames are pretty straightforward, long perhaps, but legit:
DEMO_JacobEkstrom_CORPORATE_2011_60sec_128.mp3

I COULD try and simplify the filenames, I guess.

The files are encoded within my Wavelab software using LAME, the MPEG-info is:
Size: 959228 bytes
Header found at: 0 bytes
Length: 59 seconds
MPEG 1.0 layer 3
128kbit, 2300 frames
44100Hz Stereo
CRCs: No
Copyrighted: No
Original: No
Emphasis: None

Do you think it could be the encoding? I guess I could try a different encoder. Other than that I'm clueless.

Filename is too long.

You have to keep it under 30 characters.
Yours is 46.

DB, I so wish I could tell you that was it, as it seemed logical, so I changed it to:
CORPORATE_2011_60sec_128.mp3
28 characters... however, same error.

By the way, this is the name of the file I'm trying to replace:
DEMO_JacobEkstrom_Narration-Corporate-IVR_2009__2_128kbps.mp3
61 characters... uploaded fine at the time.

This will sound silly- I see you have "Danish VO Geek" in your signature. Is there any chance one or more of the characters in the filename is from the Danish alphabet? It's possible their systems don't like non-ASCII characters; if they don't support Unicode properly that could happen.

Again, a long shot but...

Nono, Corey, the filename is: CORPORATE_2011_60sec_128.mp3 so no weird characters at all.

Well, it was a thought. Smile Two possibilities come to mind:

1) Contact voices.com support and ask them what's up.
2) Try uploading it from a different computer entirely, preferably on a different network.

1) Been there, done that. I've already received more help here than from Voices support.

2) I can try from a different computer, but if I have to do this from an entirely different network I'll forget about it - I've never EVER experienced anything like this before, and if Voices are acting out, it's not worth it. I'm a Standard subsciber, not Premium (and I've never been, so THAT'S not the issue.)

I'm just trying to eliminate variables, is all. When you send the file does it seem to upload and then fail after you send it or does it happen too quickly for the file to have been transferred?

If you want to arrange a time I can do a remote assistance session and may be be able to sort what's going on.

Here's another suggestion/thought: You're using Internet Explorer 8- have you tried it with Compatibility Mode enabled? Next to the address bar are 3 buttons- the compatibility button is the one on the left, looking like a torn page. If you switch that up, do you get a different result?

Corey, I appreciate every input, believe me! This is getting a bit frustrating for me, since I normally consider myself pretty tech-savvy and never had problems like these before.

Your question is hard to answer, because I'm on a 100 Mbit Fibre line and a 2 mb upload happens in the blink of an eye. So I have no way of knowing if it actually uploads or not. I have written yet another email to Voices support and if they can't help me, I may take you up on your kind gesture. Thanks!

ADDED: Nope, haven't tried "Compatibility Mode"... will do asap.
