Okay, I admit this is only peripherally about VO, but it's very cool anyway.
A recent article in my local newspaper about turmeric reminded me of something I'd heard but had not really absorbed, viz., that a chemical in turmeric (curcumin), a much-used spice in Indian cuisine, holds great promise for preventing or slowing the progression of Alzheimer's Disease. It has also been shown to slow or reverse prostate tumour growth in mice and is being studied in clinical trials in humans now. Also curcumin in combination with a chemical found in brassicaceous vegetables such as cauliflower maybe be an even more powerful tumour-reducer.
NIH is funding at least 8 different studies on turmeric.
The incidence of Alzheimer's in India is 4.4 times lower than in the U.S. in people aged 70-79.
We had a cauliflower/turmeric dish this very evening. I feel I've extended my career by at least another day.
Here's a link to the article. I hope you don't have to register to view it.
Note added later - looks like you do have to register & the link has already expired. But it's easy to learn more by Googling turmeric or curcumin with key words like Alzheimer's, cancer, tumour &c (some sources claim turmeric will reduce wrinkles, but I'm guessing it would also make ya yellow). |

Hey Mary - Dante and I have been eating Indian foods for a while now, for the very same reason. We decided to start shopping outside the city to get cheaper food, and every 10 days we go to the Indian supermarket and buy all fresh veg and cook up a storm. Saves a ton of money, and reeelly good for ya!
Last night we had sag paneer, lentil dahl, chinese eggplant Yum! |

My recipe for tandoori doesn't have turmeric. Just make sure you have that potato-cauliflower thing. A lot.
Yes, post recipes Sameer!! I have 3 Indian cookbooks but I know I've only scratched the surface. And it is my favorite cuisine... |

Get some 3% H2O2 from the pharmacy and dab it on until stain has gone.
Careful of bleaching surrounding pattern though. |

Or dye the whole thing in a tumeric solution until it turns a lovely golden orange.

I vote for Bruce's solution.
I've dyed things in tea, soaked whole garments in oil.
I always send my black goth stuff through a black dye-bath every few washings. _________________ DBCooperVO.com |
