Big program for VO...but and I really have no idea but the first thing that came to mind was Quickbooks for Dummies....then I wondered if there were any tutorials out there anywhere, like youtube or something. Wish I could help you more but maybe this will get you going in the right direction. I use Home and Business.

Jane,

I've been using Quickbooks for years, though the Windows version. I can't imagine the Mac version is all that dissimilar. Call me if you like and I'll do what I can to walk you through a few things.

Oh, and I think Greg's suggestion of searching YouTube is a terrific idea.

Hi Jane,

I don't know what your needs are, but if a full accounting suite (and the associated learning curve) is too much for you, you might want to check out some of the online invoicing services like www.simplyinvoices.com, www.zohoinvoice.com, www.simplybill.com or www.freshbooks.com.

One of FaffCon's sponors, lynda.com has a video tutorial online. You can usually watch the first few chapters before you have to purchase a membership. That's how I learned ProTools. Their tutorials are very thorough and up to date.

I'm another Quickbooks users; been using it for years. I run the Windows version on a Mac with VM Fusion though I may move to the real Mac version the next time I upgrade.

Anyhow, I'll be happy to help if I can.

Bob, you are the first Mac-QuickBooks VO I have found-
Good to know you are out there!
I have heard talk that intuit is going to stop Mac support for Quicken. I hope it's not contagious as far as QuickBooks goes. Shocked I am looking forward to a long and stable relationship with my financial software!!!

Unless you feel the need to come up with regular financial statements, you don't have to enter everything into QB. You can just use the invoicing functions:

Creating invoices and monthly statements
The Accounts Receivable form
The Payment function
The Invoice Aging Report to see how late certain clients are

One "trick" I use...if you create an invoice and then ask it to create a pdf, it does so and opens up your email program to send it, but I remember not liking the title for the pdf...no detail. What I do is click the "next" button after creating the invoice (which opens up a new invoice) and then hit the "previous" button to go back to my desired invoice. When I send that version it has a more complete title for the pdf invoice.

Hi, Jane,

The Mac version used to be somewhat limited compared to the PC version so I stayed with the PC. But I'm thinking of switching over at the next upgrade.

I do something similar to Bruce's suggestion re: PDFs (which is how I send 99.99% of my invoices): From the File menu, I do a Save as PDF. (If this doesn't exist on the Mac side, you could use the OS's built in PDF capability from the Print dialog box.) I, too, didn't like QB's stock email look and so adopted this method. I send a custom email from my normal mail program (Mail) with the PDF attachment. This allows me, should payment on the invoice be late, to go back and forward that exact message again, complete with original attachment and email date, to the client. ("See! I invoiced you 60 days ago!" it says ... but without my really saying it.)

Bruce, I click Send to open up the email with pdf attachment, then save the attached pdf with the name I want and cancel the email.

I suppose I ought to make an effort to find a tutorial as well. I like the results of QB, but find it clunky - at least the way I use it.

Thanks, all, for the PDF ideas on invoicing!

MCM,
I don't know what you are looking for exactly, but I just picked up a book at Barnes and Noble called " QuickSteps" for QuickBooks, by Thomas E Barich. There are several good references out there now, and I am sure there is lots online. I will pass on anything I come across that looks worthwhile.
