This informal workshop will be to teach Voice Actors about the different
types of microphones and preamps, presently being used in the Voiceover
industry, while in a controlled setting. Your host and engineers for the
evening at the SAG Foundation Don La Fontaine Voice-Over Lab will be
George Whittam and Mike Sommer.

You will have a chance to test and use each mic, as well as to hear the
various colors and shadings of a variety of preamps.

The workshop will include basic discussions on microphone and preamp types,
usage as well as their general technical background and characteristics.

At the end of the class you will receive a copy of the all the recorded
samples, so that you may listen and compare the differences between each
of the microphones and preamps at your leisure and convenience. Please
bring a flash drive to receive your recorded samples (flash drives/CDs will
not be provided).

Acoustics are counter-intuitive. If one thing is certain about acoustics, it is that if anything seems obvious it is probably wrong.
