AFTRA has posted an advisory on their website warning non-union broadcasters about certain clauses (perpetually renewing clauses) popping up in non-union agent contracts that are a huge problem for talent. If it applies to you, you may want to give it a read before putting pen to paper.

Very good info to know, for someone like me who is just getting started and is looking to secure an agent.
Thanks, Melissa! Very much!

Love to hear from a lawyer -- especially a broadcast contract specialist -- if such "evergreen" clauses are enforceable.
I don't think they are in California, where there is an "indentured servant" law allowing people to get out of such deals after 7 years.
Many contract provisions forbidding talent from working for competing companies have been tossed out. _________________ http://MichaelSchoen.com |
