Hi all,

New to this board but have been reading and learning for a little over a year on various others. Schooled in broadcasting in the early 90's but no actual experience and only these past 2 years have I decided to get back to what I love.

I'm contemplating several mics (MXL Genesis/V89/V69XM, KSM44/PG42/SM7b, AT4040) and several preamps (DBX 286a/376, Aphex 230, ART Tube MP Studio V3). The A/D conversion is where I get confused.

Sorry if this question is somewhat remedial but I can't find it posted anywhere. Can I run from an outboard preamp into an A/D converter which also has a preamp? This just seems redundant to have my signal pass through two preamps and I assume may even over process the signal. Am I wrong? Can I go from a 286a right into a Presonus Fire Studio Mobile and then to CPU?

Thanks in advance for any help/opinions,
Jeff

Yes you can, if you come from the 286a into the Presonus using the TRS line input or instrument input.
