Oh, ok. Fair enough.

I chose the blue, then.

The....slate....blue.

Ba dum pump!

Hey thanks folks, you've been great. You don't have to go home but you can't stay here! And show your waitress a little love 20% is more than the booze content of your drinks, its also the tipping rule. Ga night!

Slating your name is like any other part of the game, we go on to the field of play with a 95% chance of not scoring a point. Anybody who is trying to sell a pay to play website, demo service, book, seminar, coaching and anything else that will put you on to the road to voice over riches should acknowledge that.

The rules are, there are no rules. For the record I do not slate my name unless specifically asked to for an audition. If I am asked to audition I know that the list of voices auditioning for the job are me, Pat Duke and an FVO from Hollywood who is going out with one of the account executives from the ad agency really wants to act and star in movies, direct, pick up her singing career but not forget her dancing which is where she came from at the start before she moved in with Vinny who's her manager. The job spec' for the audition reads - MVO British 47 year old lives in Portgordon.

Will creating the right slate help or hinder? If you're genuinely concerned about that you probably need to look at 101 other things first. There are at least two voice overs I can name with national and international credits who until recently would not have seen the irony in Peter's response.

If there's a job out there with your name on it or an agent who believes he can make money by selling your voice you slate or lack of it won't really make that much difference. My car has an air conditioned glove compartment hhad it not I would've bought it any way, it does not have reverse park assistance but that's ok because I took the trouble some years ago to learn to drive.

The deal clincher, the only deal clincher - Your voice.
