True. I never use the transport wheel either. Although I don't find it to be in the way. (Most of the time I forget that it's even there) BUT...I also use it mostly for audio editing. I suspect if you also use it more for video editing, the wheel would begin to show it usefulness for "scrubbing."
I find that we tend to prefer whatever we get used to. I still like to chop up audio in Saw Pro. (don't' laugh) Since I can drive that car without giving it a second thought. Although I process in Sound Forge Pro. And....do both audio and video in Vegas Pro. (which grew out of a completely audio program)
Different strokes. |

Yeah, I thought I would use the transport and scrub a lot more when editing, and I don't use it at all when editing (very rarely for specific stuff) but I absolutely LOVE it for recording.
My setup is with the ShuttlePro on a stool next to me at a comfortable hand height. I can reach it just by putting my hand out at my waist. I've mapped keys for Rewind, FF, Record, Play, Return to Start, Insert Marker, Toggle Pre-Roll, Zoom In, Zoom Out, Previous/Next Marker, Toggle Roll-In, and Undo.
I can operate it now without even looking. When I flub while recording, or need to pick back up after stopping, I use the scrub and jog wheels to locate a good spot- I use monitors, not headphones. I put in a marker, and hit the record button, get a couple secs of pre-roll and I'm off.
If I can't find a good spot without a breath or something in it I can make one by toggling pre-roll off, putting the playhead right after the last good audio and recording a few seconds of silence. Then roll back to put in a marker and run.
If I need to retry something multiple times I can tap the Undo button to eliminate the extra take and try again. It's worked really well so far! _________________ Corey "Vox Man" Snow

Anyone remember the old Microsoft Office Keyboard? It has Cut, Copy and Paste button on the left had side of the keyboard. I have gotten so used to using them that when I tried to use my Shuttle Xpress (much simpler than the Pro), it just didn't seem worth the learning curve to bother over the slight advantage it may have over the keyboard. It would help though, if could ever figure out how to map the damn thing. I'm using Sound Forge 10, and can onlt get it to cut, copy and paste. I can't get it to mute, or normalize, or pretty much anything else I'd find useful. And I don't like the scroll wheel, it just seem intuitive to me (I may be a bit dim though...). _________________ Best regards,
