I was going to recommend making sure that you had the required 1.21 jigawatts going to the flux capacitor, but I see you have the problem taken care of... carry on then _________________ Does life start at 40? |

We made the gate invisible, have the compressor on a smidge, nudged the De-esser into action, engaged the "Big Bottom" (what a name) and Aural Exciter elements just enough to know they're there.
It's quite a big sound. BIG. |
Well that makes sense. Anytime you have a pre with and input and output gain, you need to feed the amp before you can get anything out of it. The output is essentially "make up gain" for the compressor in this case. That is to say there is the Preamp + Compressor AKA limiting "amplifier".
The Aural Exciter can really ad depth and clarity to vox.
And the Boys over at Aphex are great. |

Congrats!
Welcome to the dark side of Preampvania...where only The Chosen come to know that high end mics plugged in to any old mixer sound relatively lifeless.
Preampvania...where it sounds like your mouth is actually behind the speaker cones! Mwhuu-haa-hwaaaah! *SFX: Thunder Und Lightning*
Good luck. _________________ Skype: globalvoiceover

I'm still going to need to fuss around with it to make it sound lively.
I'm not getting as much signal from the S/PDIF digital output as I would like, and if I increase the output volume, I do still get serious noise.
We shall see how things work out.
I am hugely grateful that the fellow helping me never audibly blinked when he asked where I had gotten the unit and I named the seller. He only asked "Oh, it's used? why did that guy sell it?"
They know Our George Whittam by name! pretty spiffy. _________________ DBCooperVO.com

Congrats on getting things dialed in, Deirdre.
Nice thing about a small company like Aphex is the personal support you get. I met Marvin the prez of Aphex a few times, we're talking about setting me up as a dealer for them. They are a bit tricky to get dialed in, more so than other units, because they have such huge range on the controls and so many different features. Does the Output fader effect the SPDIF output, I can't recall! You know, I was just reminded, as many times I've setup studios it never occurred to me to use the insert jack on the Mackie (or similar) mixer as the input. That's brilliant! I guess I've had good luck with the mixer's input amp not adding a bunch of noise, but this would clean things up even more. _________________ If it sounds good, it is good.

I had the same problem with the 230. They figured it was probably the Tube... It went back to the distributor... |
