What Deebs said.
That AdTran/Comrex combo doesn't go past G.722. It's fine for broadcasting reports but when I have an ISDN session I have to go elsewhere. |

You are pretty safe with Musicam products like the Roadrunner, which is the least expensive way to get the MPEG Layer 2 Mono codec that is the industry standard. There are many cheap ISDN codecs out there, but they don't have that codec, and that is the most important part. You might find used Roadrunners that cost about the same as the AudioTX option, and are MUCH less challenging to setup. Their downside is they have a noisy fan, so it must be in another room or outside your booth. _________________ If it sounds good, it is good.

I think FF would have fault with that! He's had one hell of a time getting AudioTX Communicator to work with ISDN. And Mo over at AudioTX is a pain to deal with for support, believe me. Plus you have to buy the dongle with a WIRE TRANSFER, Mo still won't take credit cards. Done a Wire Transfer to the UK from the US lately? It costs more than shipping!
At least the British Pound is declining close to the same rate as the US Dollar, so that helps at least... _________________ If it sounds good, it is good.

Actually, George, they accepted a Credit Card payment for my dongle...and I've found their tech support so far to be responsive and helpful.
I just could've used some pre-emptive or preventative early admonitions to avoid some hassles....but ISDN (as I understand it) is much more of a common everyday thing in Europe, so they may not have thought to have warned me of potential land-mines.

Hey, well that's progress! Glad they are making it easier now. Next time I need support or a client wants AudioTX I won't be so quick to be discouraged.
Best of luck with it all... _________________ If it sounds good, it is good.

As I have not purchased my dongle yet I can only add to Dave's report. AudioTX has been helpful when asked questions.
Yes, they rely on the fact ISDN in Europe is in abundance and their focus is revealed by their choice of necessary equipment, but I find no fault with AudioTX.
My troubles are related to a bad choice in purchasing the necessary NT1. I thought I had a great deal with a purchase from eBay, As it turned out the NT1 was fried, and I am awaiting an NT1 from CourVO (Thank you again Dave).
We will see what happens next... stay tuned, "same Bat time, same Bat station".
Toodles

The Eicon has landed!
'Got my V2.0 Eicon Diva USB ISDN External Modem from Dave Immer at DigiPhone today.
'Plugged it in to my just-restored-to-an-earlier-date XP computer, and it recognized it, installed the drivers, and settled into what appears to be an absolutely ready state.
The NT-1 also is making all the right noises, which is to say all the correct lights are on, and all the bad lights are off.
Now all I need is for someone to test my line, I guess.

I'll be in Saturday if anyone feels up to a test.
Call my landline first at 702-254-1262 (home)
702-610-6288 (cell)
Thanks in advance.

Dave,
So you know, when I tried dialing your lines just now I'm getting a "user busy" error. I hope that means that you're connected with someone else successfully. _________________ Be well,
