i've heard this said before ... but never any elaboration. so ... what? above the video card? scotch taped to the usb card? |
The problem is that all PCI slots are not the same, buss speed, location to other cards (interference and RF signal from power supply and the like)- sometimes they go in and they sound fine, other times it takes a little jockeying of of the cards to get a good balance, sometimes a good outboard "Digital Audio Interface" will be a better choice then a card. Another problem is there is not enough ram, and or if you are getting a lot of scratch artifacts you need to rase your "audio buffers" on your recording program, not all have this option but most do. Computers were not specifically designed to be recorders thusly they have short comings. Which is often why many studios just record directly into a CD recorder, and burn a disk. Then edit in a program like Logic or Protools etc...

| Then we are in agreement, that most are junk. I'm not getting in a pissing match about mics here, if it works for you, it works! But you've had a mic for less then 6 months and it failed. All I was pointing out is that the technology is not there yet to delver consistently take after take, your mic proved that. And that developing a solid sound chain in the analog world before injecting it into your computer is the best way to go.
I just hate seeing folks jumping over dollars to pick up dimes on gear. But if you're happy, you're happy.
Bottom line Samson has earned the reputation as the worst brand name on the American market. It is my opinion that these mics deliver modiste acceptable results at very best. Until Samson demonstrates dramatic improvements in quality control standards, I can not count on them to deliver a properly functioning product at point of purchase - let alone one that sounds very good to begin with. Even at their rock bottom prices, the risking of time and effort just to get one that works as advertised just isn't worth the initial "savings". _________________ The Blog:

Acoustics are counter-intuitive. If one thing is certain about acoustics, it is that if anything seems obvious it is probably wrong.

i guess i've been "lucky" then - i've never had any of the problems mentioned - neither with the modestly priced sound card i started out with nor any of the fairly pricey ones i have experimented with up to now. _________________ "i know philip banks": todd ellis

But not all cards are the same, some sound much better then others, and now with some great Firewire Audio Interfaces you can get some real juicy sounding audio at reasonable prices. _________________ The Blog:
