The Container Store has the Reisenthel non-collapsible variety most of the time. It is however, collapsible if you just take the four lightweight rods out of the sleeves the rods go in. After you take them out, it folds down just like the other....just a minute or two more work involved.

I got mine a while back for $9.99 because it was marked wrong. It should have been $19.99 though.

HAH! Furalex! If only we could package it and sell it baby!

[FYI- Stormin' Norman has been walking around crying for his bed now that it's all packed away]

My first post - Actually, I finally decided to register after lurking for a while so I could let you guys know that The Container Store has the Reisenthel collapsibles in stock again. I picked one up in the NYC store a couple days ago. They had about 10 of them on the shelf. And I just saw a stack in the Paramus , NJ store today when I was up there so the entire chain is probably carrying them.

Love the furalex version! He looks so content I think I'll have to buy another two now just for my boys.....

Hi Melissa and welcome aboard.

I found something similar at Bed, Bath and Beyond. It's a collapsible laundry bin. It works well, but I haven't used it a lot just because it blocks my vision.

Only problem with the Furalex version is that it contains this little hidden motor. It's a very soothing sound, but it's tough to control, and can prove disruptive during recording. Smile

So, I love this idea of a small, sound-deadened box, and have spent part of today putting one together using a box and some extra sound-absorbing foam left over from when we built a studio a while back. However, I have this one burning question: how do you keep the copy in view so that you're not turning away from the mic? Or am I missing something here?

BTW: LOVE the Furalex insert. I have four of them, and they all love this box.

Sure nuff. You graciously gave up more than one lunch break and your porta booth to save my vocal bacon....Liz and I share a mutual client, and they were thrilled that we could both work while out o' town at Voice thanks to her porta booth.

I found an alternative to the pricey units from the Container Store on Ebay.

Cheaper, lighter, packs flatter. Then, just get this foam:

They sell it in quantities, so maybe share it with fellow VO people.

George et al,
I just purchased the "Whitmor Collapsable Cubes" (Like the ones on ebay) for $9.99 for a Two-Pack.
They are available at Target. I got mine at Home Goods, a division of TJ Max.
I believe they are going to work fine. I'm going to test them out on location next week.
Willie E.

P.S. Since I have two, anyone in the neighborhood can have the extra for a tray of hushpuppies.

I don't need one to travel, so built one using a much sturdier box that I can move off the desk as needed. It's amazingly quiet!

I just bought a two-pack of the blue ones online. There are several colors (some you can't get in the stores directly) and a slight range of pricing as well. The cheapest (they're all made the same) is 9.99 and has FREE shipping!

YahoooOOoo!!! I'm a Happy Meiser!!!!! Wink

Thanks Willie!!!

Had a chance to throw mine together...and you know what? It really sounds good. It sounds best aimed toward a dead corner.
