They can be a challenge! Especially when you go to www.m-w.com to get a pronunciation for a medical procedure, practice it over and over....and then the client gets on the phone (yep, my famous phone patch!) and says "Nope, it's pronounced...." a different way!!!!!
It was the most important word in the script & it took me till about the 5th time in the script to get in on the first shot!
Oh well!

They let you do that???? If we have a diffocult word, we are usually stuck with saying it if the client and the RACC or BACC have signed it off.

But sometimes is just has to be changed.
I was narrating a long museum exhibit film this spring and eventually arrived at a phrase explaining that somewhere around 150,000 years ago, "man began to walk erect."
The control room went into hysterics, I lost it, and everything came to a chortling standstill.
I respectfully suggested that "man began to walk upright" carried the same meaning and actually sounded better anyway.
The director phoned the script's author at home to okay the change, and we forged ahead. |

LOL!
Another funny little story. Was recording an audition (it was a long one) and was playing it back to myself... script was your typical airline piece...
"...There are three exit areas: two in the front, two in the middle, and one, at the rear...."
Sure enough, I had read it "IN the rear"
I was HYSTERICAL thinking, who would write IN THE REAR... especially with the pause the way it's typically done? Then I checked the script.... sure enough, they had "AT the rear". I bet they laughed too when they decided to change it (b/c I think "in" sounds better than "at" -- except in this case).
Maybe you had to be there.... but I had tears in my eyes I was laughin' so hard. _________________ Caryn Clark... The Hip Chick Voice!

I do that too, and the other trick I have to do is write an 'h' on the front of 'our' to prevent me saying 'are.'
Today? I couldn't pronounce anything that started with the letter 'L' to save my soul. "Listen and learn," "Living lessons and learning lessons"-- impossible.

Amy,
I like that "h" in front of our tip....I periodically get those ads with "blah blah blah are our specialty"....always a couple of takes on those. _________________ Moe Egan
