Bill, first, your questions.

1. Sounds like ground hum to me (perhaps a potential ground loop). I've tried plugging into the same outlets as my computer, different ones, through a line conditioner, through a UPS, straight into the wall, and...

nuttin'

2. Pitch is low, does not change as you move the mic. It can get louder or softer as you move the mic around, so that's weird.

3. Monitors (for right now) are just a set of Creative 5.1 computer speakers. Have tried more expensive studio monitors, but for the money, I didn't notice that much difference, so I stuck with the comp. speakers.

4. The monitor is LCD, so I doubt that's it, and is pretty far from the mic (5 feet +).

Vance, regarding your question, yes, indeed I do have a flourescent light in the room. I put one of those $15 hang-from-the-center-of-the-room light kits with a high-wattage flourescent bulb in it (equivalent to a 150W incandescent). I now almost have the power of the sun in here at night, which is good since I need it to work on computers. But the hum is there, light on or not (at least I think).

Bill, you may be on to something, though. What I suppose could be causing this is perhaps one of my power brick adapters for the several computer and recording gadgets I have. I'll unplug those one by one and see if that's a solution.

Thanks for the tips.
