Thanks, Bob. Yeah, I'd seen that. I guess I have too much cowboy in me (and since I'm about to quote Cole Porter, perhaps saying "cowboy in me" isn't the right term ) "Don't fence me in . . ." However, it may be a great experience for some of the other talents on the board. To each his/her own.

Some have worked a deal where they can keep their current and past clients. |

Hey Chris
You kind of work for them, correct? What kind of volume do they generate to be able to demand that kind of arrangement? (BTW, not slamming them, just kind of incredulous in today's free-agent market.) I know you said they put a roof over your head, and I am certain that it'll vary by talent, but how many gigs go through there daily/weekly/yearly? I understand if you can't say, as you did/do work there. Just curious.

Yo chris,
The devil's in the detail here so perhaps you'd like to post your last 5 years accounts with a summary from an independent auditor. Projections for 2007-2010 would also help.
For years 2002 -2005 if you could apply an accepted discounted cash flow rule so that the effects of inflation do not distort the figures.
When you've done this please bear in mind I have slots free at 2pm and 3pm for voice over work and would appreciate you arranging paying gigs for both.
If you're free, Lauren doesn't feel like going to work today so there'll be a Saab 2000 waiting at Aberdeen (Dyce) airport. John is the First Officer on duty with her (you) today so he'll help you with the what bits to pull and push and when stuff. If you don't have a map, southampton is South. Amy is doing the tea, coffee and food bit so no need to worry about that. |

Philip, the financial details will arrive via FedEx this morning at your London solicitor's office. My staff is generating the financial projections so they may take 24 hours longer. I would love to fly into Aberdeen but my jet is getting new whitewall tires today.
But seriously, I'm uncomfortable supplying information to my accountant--and I even lie to her--let alone posting that kind of stuff on the Internet. My previous post said everything: I do OK. There was no element of bragging, just to let the folks on the board here know that while some people are uncomfortable with Studio Center's deal I'm fine with it. There are many people on the roster that earn all their income from SC. Several of my colleagues make towards the middle six figures or more (they don't tell me either), there are others that earn enough to make a car payment. Depends on your talent and how you've honed it. Pretty much like out in the wilds of freelance voice overs except without the expense of marketing.
For more information, as we say in radio spots, call 866-515-2111 toll free and ask for the talent coordinator.
IMPORTANT NOTE 1: I am no more connected to Studio Center than Deirdre is.
IMPORTANT NOTE 2: If you DO get on with SC, tell them that I was the one the turned you on to them. I'll get a tiny finders fee.
IMPORTANT NOTE 3: I really would love to fly into Aberdeen today. |

All humour aside, anyone reading Chris' responses needs to understand that the basic message; a deal with Studio Center is still not a deal with the client and ultimatley it's the client who decides who earns and who doesn't.
I'm better at movie trailers than Don La Fontaine and better at TV promos than Joe Cipriano but sadly their clients are just too dumb to figure that out!

Ah, sarcasm from both sides on the pond . . .
Like the caveat in my post said, I was only curious what amount of work actually came through to warrant the request for exclusivity. Didn't mean to ruffle any feathers. And I wasn't asking for your finances, just the workflow through SC, though not necessarily through you. I gather they are consistently busy.
Thanks for answering the question. |

Matt,
Though I don't work for Studio Center and never have, I think I can confidently say I know enough to observe that this is actually rather an understatement. _________________ Be well,

How exclusive is this exclusive contract? Just in their market? World wide? And are all the talents near their Virginia location? I think I remember their site said something about "coming in for an audition."

Actually, it would be fairly easy to "come in" with studios in Virginia Beach, Memphis, Las Vegas and Hollywood. Their market is the planet. |

7033 Sunset Boulevard in Hollywood.
And you can take a look at the Wikipedia article, which they paid me to write.[/url]
I'm pretty much done with this thread now. Thanks for listening and goodnight. |
