Ummm... Monday is the 21st. Smile Don't worry, I'm still suffering from "the Y2K" bug, too!
A production engineer is a great way to test mics. However, I'm a big believer in that it's not as much the equipment as your performance.

Bill- "My studio has a Neumann U87."
Client- "That's great, but you sound like Jerry Lewis when he was 17 years old."

Again, let us know what you decide to get. It's always fun to compare studio chains.

I've also read good things about the Audio Technica 2020. Keep in mind that most of these reviews are from musicians.

When I switched from a desktop computer to a laptop I also got an Mbox from Zzounds. They threw in an AT 2020 as a lagniappe. For free--or even for under a hundred bucks--it's a hell of deal. It is a great sounding little mic. It isn't my "go-to" mic (the AT 4040 is here at home for auditions) but I would wager most of us wouldn't guess that it was a budget mic after listening to it.

This is a review by a non-musician. They don't allow me to sing at the ball game because I throw the crowd off.

Bill, you'd greatly improve your audio chain by substituting mayo for the mustard on the ham sandwich. You also need to make sure the lettuce crosses all tomato wedges at a 90 degree angle. If you add some Swiss cheese it will add some EQ shelving in the right frequencies.
