So I went for it. the ad is here. Any suggestions on how to make it better?

The copy editor in me says you could make it better by spelling "website" correctly, using one consistent form of the word "voiceover" (or "voice over" or "voice-over" -- take your pick) throughout, and capitalize "on-hold messaging" in the same way that you've capitalized the rest of that list.

Other than that, it seems pretty straightforward.

If I were to try to read Banksey's mind, I'd guess that he'd tell you to sell yourself a little more. What makes you special? What do they get in a Jeffrey Kafer VO job that they can't get anywhere else?

But I'm not Banksey. I just play him on TV.

Just a pet peeve of mine: "Pro Tools" is actually spelled with two words. Smile I see resumes from audio engineers all the time with "ProTools," Protools," Pro-Tools," and what have you. I'm sure it doesn't bother most people. Just one of those things!

Also, the Holy Grail of this post is the link to your site with the demos. You might try putting that higher up in the post so it's not missed.

As many people have mentioned, Craigslist ads need to be re-posted every few days or so, so you have plenty of opportunities to play with different versions of the ad!

Jeff,

My instant gut reaction: Make the next you one you do shorter, I don't think most people are going to take the time to read all of that. You're lucky if you get 3 to 5 seconds of their time. Boil all that down to the golden nugget of info, "Why should I check out Jeffrey Kafer?" They can learn all about Pro Tools and preamps and delivery options once they're actually at your website.

I think the goal here is to get a websurfer (preferably a potential client but with a free ad let's not be too picky) to click on your link and listen to at least 10 seconds of a demo. So what can you put in the ad to make that happen? What is in the ad that isn't making that happen?

Does that make sense? Hmm, now that I've thought all that through I think I'll see if I can put my money where my mouth is. I'll put up my own Craigslist ad this week and we can compare.

EDIT:

One more thing I just thought of. My wife and I buy and sell a lot of items on the Raleigh Craigslist. For whatever reason we've found that the best time to list items is Monday morning. I have no idea why but we that's when we get the best response.

You guys rock, thanks for all the opinions.

BTW - make sure you type in Craigslist.com and not Craiglist.com. Whole different kind of site.... Smile
