It depends on who I'm talking to! If I answered it how I talk here, I'd get the Midland. If it's how I talk when I speak to my Mother, it's Inland North or Boston.

It's when "Downtown" becomes "Dahntahn" and when you "red up" your room. Here they are "rubber bands" for her they are "gum bans".

Pittsburgher and proud of it.

huh, I'm from the West, which is pretty much dead-on. Raised mostly in Northern Cali, I now live in Washington state. Should I be offended that I'm described as the "lowest common denominator..."? Smile

What American accent do you have? Your Result: The West

Your accent is the lowest common denominator of American speech. Unless you're a SoCal surfer, no one thinks you have an accent. And really, you may not even be from the West at all, you could easily be from Florida or one of those big Southern cities like Dallas or Atlanta.

Glad to know I scored "Midland" as well especially since I grew up in Oklahoma and now live in Houston, TX

It hit me dead on: The West. Grew up in Washington State (specifically Port Angeles...Jeffrey will probably know where that's at). Didn't leave the state 'til I was nearly 30, so the sound is fairly engrained. Smile

Indeed. You and I are completely accent-free.

"You have a Midland accent" is just another way of saying "you don't have an accent." You probably are from the Midland (Pennsylvania, southern Ohio, southern Indiana, southern Illinois, and Missouri) but then for all we know you could be from Florida or Charleston or one of those big southern cities like Atlanta or Dallas. You have a good voice for TV and radio.

Mine, too. I grew up west of the Rockies, so... how is that Midland?

Midland here as well.

Good news after living 33 years in Texas. Smile My wife worked hard in college to lose her Boston accent for her Speech classes. Maybe she could give Bruce some pointers. Laugh

Too funny! I was born in PA (both my parents grew up in Philly)... but moved to FL when I was 11. I lived in NY for 4 years after college, but other than that, I've been in FL the other 20 years.

I have to say though... my mom had the accent, but I really don't. Really and truly. Weird.

What American accent do you have?
Your Result: Philadelphia

Your accent is as Philadelphian as a cheesesteak! If you're not from Philadelphia, then you're from someplace near there like south Jersey, Baltimore, or Wilmington. if you've ever journeyed to some far off place where people don't know that Philly has an accent, someone may have thought you talked a little weird even though they didn't have a clue what accent it was they heard.

I got that exact same thing:
Your accent is as Philadelphian as a cheesesteak!
I've always thought of myself as hispanic as a Cuban Sandwich... but whatever.

If you're not from Philadelphia, then you're from someplace near there like south Jersey, Baltimore, or Wilmington.
Oh! So close - the Bronx and Washington Heights.

if you've ever journeyed to some far off place where people don't know that Philly has an accent, someone may have thought you talked a little weird even though they didn't have a clue what accent it was they heard.
Yeah - that's so TRUE! When I visit family in the Dominican Republic, they sometimes say, "¿Que?"

This is so interesting. We're all coming up with very different results.

People are always surprised when I tell them I'm California born and raised. Methinks the Midwestern parents are the reason for this. This probably also explains my East Coast clients. Who knew?
=================================================================
Your Result: The Inland North

You may think you speak "Standard English straight out of the dictionary" but when you step away from the Great Lakes you get asked annoying questions like "Are you from Wisconsin?" or "Are you from Chicago?" Chances are you call carbonated drinks "pop."

The Northeast (lots on the olde bar graph)

Philadelphia (slightly less than lots)

The Midland (pretty much)

The South (some)

Boston (a tad)

The West (not much) What?!!!

North Central (a smidge)
