I find that statement grossly unsubstantiated. I use a bass trap in my booth. As a matter of fact the manufacturer of the booth tried to sell me one for it as well.

I was speaking just on this specific case judging by the picture provided. To me it looks like the closet is far too small to even fit a trap in there. However, each room is different some vocal booths may need low frequency control some may not. I tend to see bass traps used far more in monitoring/mixing rooms as opposed to vocal booths. If you keep the reflections down in a vocal booth(depending on the shape/size of the room) you're 75% of the way there.
Treatments in the monitoring/mixing rooms are another story all together.
