It comes with Protools LE so I'll try that out to see how it works before I make a decision on my Editing/Recording software. Still working on the mic issue. Thanks gang!

Dino,
Before you buy the Mbox Mini, please note that it will ONLY work well with ProTools; so unless you're going to go with ProTools as your software, for sure, you might want to consider other alternatives. (I know you're supposed to be able to use other software, but I promise it's will be a long and frustrating exercise.)
Now, I use ProTools a lot, and like it a lot; but as Chris notes, there's a long learning curve. _________________ Be well,

Moo,
That's the mic that I use. I, too, couldn't be happier with its performance. I've heard about the tube upgrades but have also been advised not to attempt to replace it myself.
Have you performed the upgrade? Did you do it yourself? If so, please share the procedure.
Thanks. |

Hey Dino...
I do know where Clyde is. Not too far from me. Nice to meet you.
I have used Sweetwater in the past, also Full Compass.
Good Luck.

Amen to that!
You can be hamstrung by whatever recording software you use—once you get used to it, you're not going to want to use a different interface.
I learned on Pro Tools. I feel like it kinda taught me how to use it.
But I'm also a geek who likes to read the freakin' manual. _________________ DBCooperVO.com

OK Deebs, but do you have the RTFM t-shirt?
(Edit) I've GOT to get THIS shirt:

No, but I have seen RTFM on the license plate of a car parked next to me at a cell phone store.
I've got the t-shirt that says "No, I will not fix your computer". _________________ DBCooperVO.com

I need both of those t-shirts!!! I built about 8 computers. I get calls from friends who can't get something to work -- usually "operator error" or the teenager who went and downloaded a bunch of junk that screwed everything up. I LOVE reformatting the hard drive and making them start all over.
heheheh

Oh the stories I could tell being an IT support person on a University campus with all those PhDs.
One of my favorites was the little yellow sticky on the face of a desktop right above the floppy drive that said "metal side in". _________________ Try to imagine a world where there is no such thing as hypothetical situations.

I use an ancient version of SAWStudio for auditions here at home.
I think Frank told me that he helped out Bob Lentini, the developer, back in the day. But then Frank's a part of every good thing. What "helped out" means exactly, I'm not 100% sure.
I was looking into a newer version about 18 months ago. www.sawstudio.com is very much up and running.

What about the use of a mixer that has a USB or Firewire interface built in?
Alesis makes a nifty little mixer that can be had with your choice of USB or Firewire. I believe there are no drivers to fight with, just plug it in and use it.
That way, you would not be shackled to Pro-Tools or some other proprietary software - you keep your options open as regards editing software and use whatever you like best.
Courvo is using the USB version of the Alesis mixer - Hey Dave! Are ya there? Whaddya think? Izzit a good way to go? |

Thank you MuseVox (Sarah),
Yes, many years ago, in the dawn of time... no actually, I suggested some things to Bob regarding the use of SMPTE Time Code (a big thing with video editing back then) and it's relationship with MIDI Time Code (MTC). Thus enabling SAW to become better used in numerous environments.
I have been around this digital editing world for a long, long time... back before the use of .mp3's were thought of... because they didn't exist.
O.K., I wax poetic sometimes...
Just to add my $ .02 worth on firewire or USB mixers. Yes, they are a good, simple, quality interface, but get what you need. Many of these "all-in-one" mixers only allow for stereo input/output in and out of the PC. If you require more than the minimalist approach, think differently. For most VO applications, they are right on target, and fairly inexpensive.
Toodles
