here is the window plug i built:
i am in a garden-level room with casement windows - so the sill is deep. the total depth is 11" backed with 1/4" luan and filled with recycled denim.

That's what I thought first of all! I'm guessing it's a standard articulated stand dressed in some black foam pipe-lagging to kill the springs.
... but I'll be SO impressed if it actually is a robot-arm

riiiight i WISH! ... it's a bit disheveled in the pic - but the pipe insulation wrapped around the arm really does stop the "ring" from the springs.
