SC says you need the latest version of Pro to work with the Forte. I don't use SC much anymore since I have ISDN.

I've used my Focusrite Scarlett 8i6 successfully with the last two versions of SC Pro. No issues whatsoever.

For years my MOTU Ultralite has been my backup/travel interface.

It's a very decent stand-in for the Duet IMO. The only potential issue is that Input Channels 1 and 2 are mic inputs that force you to record directly into the interfaces preamps, and Source Connect will only hear Channels 1 and 2. This means during a SC session I would be relying on the MOTU pres.

To my ear my Great River sounds better but I guess in reality my clients on the other end wouldn't know the difference and probably wouldn't care.

So maybe I'll just make the MOTU my main interface and then get a Centrance micport pro or something like it for travel.

Retail runs $499 last time I saw, but you can pick one up new on EPay for $349 from a number of trusted commercial vendors.

Can anyone enlighten me as to the differences between the $270 version and the $399 version?

Wow. Prices have come down since I last looked. Nice.

The $270 version is the same interface. What's different? The software package bundled with it. For 270, you get the lite version of their studio software, which integrates with the interface for some nice added features, like an onscreen metering system that can be seen from across the room, and the Clip-Safe feature, which records a safety track in case of clipping, which can replace bungled peaks with the touch of a button.

For $399, you get the full version of Reason 7, regarded by many musicians as some of the better music production software in the biz. I use it, and it's pretty slick. But it's overkill for voiceover.

It's the interface you're after, and it's a good one. Clean and quiet, good pres and converters, and a really nice physical interface. Buy the cheap one.

whoops, am I correct in reading that it only gives 40 db of gain with it's mic pres?

That would be a deal killer for me. I would need much more if I take it on the road and use the SM7B.

Eddie I have searched and searched trying to find the info you are referring to.....do you have a link by chance?

I have SC Standard and am about to pull the trigger on the Forte. The only info on the SC website that I can find is about conflicts with the drivers for Focusrite Scarlett USB interfaces. But then Graeme uses the Scarlett with no issues. I'm confused........

I remember now that I bought a new computer and the old SC 3.1 won't work on windows 8 64 bit so SC said I need to BUY an upgrade to 3.7. I passed on that.

You should email them anyway to make sure Forte works with SC support@source-elements.com

good suggestion. They responded quickly and confirmed that the Forte as well as the Saffire should have no problems.

You'll like the Midnight Suite plugins. The ISA 110 EQ is killer.
