The question isn't whether there are better monitors out there.... There are.

The question is.... Are they good enough?

Can you hear your mouth clicks and mic pops? Can you hear the room tone? The proximity effect? The hum of a bad cable or the hiss in your audio chain? Do they provide a reasonably accurate representation of your voice and your gear?

If so, they're good enough.

Now, if you're jonesing for new toys, and you can afford it... Knock yourself out.

But I doubt you need them. Inoccent

And since when did that have anything to do with it? Wink

I'll weigh in with a +1 for the BX5a units. There are plenty of comparable units of varying cost... but, for me the best thing about these (apart from the fact they sound good) is that they are repairable. I had a PSU capacitor go pop, and it was a simple job to swap it out. This may not be a factor for a lot of people, but to me it was a very nice feature. Too many things are considered disposable nowadays. I like repairable.

I haven't used the BX5a monitors, but I do have a set of KRK VXT4s, and they have been great. I have found them a hair fatiguing when listening to audio that is EQd a certain way, but I can listen to myself talk through them all day, and I've never had complaints about my audio.

I'm guessing, though, that you could just tweak your current setup and get the results you're looking for. I'd just grab a chunk of known good audio, and move your desk, monitors and panels around until it sounded good. Might help to move those monitors out a bit and get yourself in the middle of an equilateral triangle. They are a bit tight (left to right) for the distance your are listening from.

before i bought new monitors i'd play with placement & angle --- also height. after i built my pvc stands i noticed a dramatic improvement in my Event TR5s just from getting them to the right height. (somebody here clued me in to that - but i don't remember who)

Would you keep upgrading mics without tuning the room acoustics? I hope not... So don't do the same with studio monitors. Brass trapping in a small room is crucial for accurate low end reproduction. Room Symmetry is as well for imaging.
