There's a handful of perfectly acceptable approaches above.

But, for some reason.... I really like Graham's suggestion. Looks like good gear.

George?

I like it, too, but I can't seem to find a place to buy it.

The JS2 is all over...looks like it does essentially the same thing. They show the same diagram on both the ProMS2 and the JS2 going from one condenser to two different pres.

The JS2 is $220. I can get a Mackie 8 channel mixer for that price and it will do more than just split the signal. Hmmm

You could just buy a second microphone.

when i did it - i used bob's #1 option. i like the overkill of the mackie because you never know when you might want to get the old band back together.

You can never have too many knobs and plugs. The 1202 is very good value at $200 or less, and apart from providing all the flexibility you'll need, the VLZ3 pre-amps are nicely un-coloured. If you spend some time with the schematic you'll probably work out that it'll even bring you a tasty beverage if you configure it correctly!

I saw a Mackie on Craigslist by me for $80. Deals can surely be found.

Great thread! Just reading this has me really thinking about picking up a Mackie mixer for all the aforementioned reasons., including getting the band back together. Wink

Another splitter option: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=&sku=227976&is=REG&A=details&Q=

If you want purist, go this route, otherwise a Mackie mixer rarely causes problems. They are the center of many a top-VO's home studio, and when setup correctly impart no detectable noise above your room tone to the signal.

I assume the typical set-up for a v-o studio involves a mic that expects a phantom voltage. (Condenser Mic.) The BHPhoto solution does not address the phantom voltage situation.

Whether you select a Mackie or a PreSonus for other device that does the digital conversion to USB, then plugging and unplugging one USB connection from computer to computer tends to minimize technical complexity.

The preamp that's connected to the direct input the non isolated input will provide the power to the microphone.

O.K. You were not proposing the splitter as a replacement for the Mackie or other device with a pre-amp, but to go between the amplifier and the two computers.

Jeff said two computers, but that implies that each computer has it's own interface/pre. This splitter will go between the mic and the two interfaces. Tantor (I think) sends narrators a separate system they have to use, dedicated to their jobs only, making it inconvenient for the talent and cluttering up their studios with more gear.

I just got that Mackie 1202-VLZ2 on ebay for $150 shipped. Not a bad deal.
