Steve- The problem with that file, besides the unbridled noise floor, is the all the room resonance and reflection. Fix all of that, and you'll sound tighter and more focused. Also pop a parametric EQ in your DAW, and set to 100Hz -3 dB and it will sound more like the 416.
But for the purpose for ever wanting to use 416 (the laser like focus and mid range punch) is lost by running it through a tube pre anyway. At last with the 710 you can adjust that color. _________________ The Blog:

Mike, That file was recorded while sitting at a desk, with the mic on a boom stand so I'm guessing there were a lot of reflections & resonance coming off of that..I also need a shockmount..
My recording "space" is in a finished basement, and I'm about to begin building a 10x10 area (tried the closet, waaaay too boxy)
that'll hopefully cut down on noise from the furnace, family, etc and tighten up the sound.. |
