Jacob,
Very impressive. I'm paying about $60 a month for 25/25Mbps FiOS service from Verizon. I seem to be getting my money's worth.

Bob, thanks but actually I'm more impressed with your readings. You DO actually get your money's worth. I don't, considering I'm paying for a 100/100, not a 100/50
The good thing is, my upload speed doesn't seem to suffer that much from being behind the router, and to be honest - I was happy a few years back when I had 8 Mbit download. For my needs it was quite sufficient. I got fiber mostly because of the upload speed. _________________ Regards,

The excuse I was given years ago by an ISP for the upload speed throttling versus your download speed is they don't want you to use your connection as a server to the Web.
I think I understand?
BTW, my speeds here on cable are 30 down and not quite 5 up. I can pay $20 more a month to get 7Mbps up. Think I'll check on FIOS.

I can understand why ISP's wouldn't provide fast upload speeds to private users as a mean to avoid filesharing. But if they provide, and you pay for, 20/20 or whatever, you should be getting 20/20 and not something like 20/7. _________________ Regards,

Bruce, my husband has been researching broadband in Portland and apparently Verizon backed out of the market there and sold off whatever infrastructure they had achieved. So no FIOS. It seems that the Comcast Xfinity offering is the supposed local equivalent as far as fiber optic technology. Not sure if you are in Portland proper, but that's what we've learned so far.
I don't know if we'll pay to get it or not - suppose it depends on what speeds the other services offer. I am letting him research all this stuff since he is the more tech-nerdy of the two of us. _________________ jen@jengosnell.com

Wow, some of those speeds are fast.
Mine are half fast. _________________ Lee Gordon, O.A.V.
