I too bought an Telos Xstream on Ebay with no issues whatsoever. I did as much due diligence as I could in advance and all turned out well. Another time, I was going to buy a very expensive preamp but Googled the user and didn't like some of what came up. So, do all the research you can in advance and make sure there's at least a 7 day window in which to return it,

Wow— lots of great input here!!

Others have said it better than I—I can't add much except for great experiences whenever I've used Ebay.
Symetrix 528, Telos Zephyr, Sennheiser 416, shockmount for the 416, and mic arms.
All fab, no troubles.

416, U87ai (both new), ...plus an AKG 414, AT 4047, Sennheiser 415 T and a couple of other mics (all sold now)....as long as do your homework and use
common sense and use Paypal you should be okay.

Beware though, I once saw an ad for a U87 that was very nicely priced and the seller offered to negotiate a Buy It Now price privately if you e mailed him directly. He had a very well designed e-mail reply from the "E-Bay Selling Assistant" who instructed you to send the money by Western Union (BIG red flag) to ROMANIA (another red flag)

When I replied that I only used Paypal he said his Paypal account was "not working".

I forwarded his "E-Bay Selling Assistant" e-mail to E-Bay and they promptly
let me know that it was a scam. I still get steamed when I think about what this person tried to do to me, and has done to probably lots of people.

Moral: Listen to your gut.

Understand though, I am a great fan of Ebay and when I have actually bought something it has always been a positive experience.

I bought my Zephyr XStream and my Symetrix 528e on eBay. The only minor issue I had was the Symetrix was used in a smoking studio... when it arrived it reeked. But it worked just fine. I did have it refurbed a couple of years ago, but no biggie. The Symetrix people are FANTASTIC!!!
