Yes furalex is great for taming some high frequency reflections. It does not however work very well as bass traps and low frequency absorbers. It is also expensive for what it does do. Other than that it's fine. |

So I decided on a pair of M-Audio BX5a. Seems to be a good value for the price point (under $300). They arrived today....the bad news is...nothing else is here yet. I can't even set them up . |

Good Choice (IMHO)... I've had a pair for a while now and they've always impressed me... primarily as near-field monitors, but also when co-opted for the outdoor summer BBQ system
The only thing that troubles me about them is the exposed cones... one day I will poke something through them... I wonder if there are any third-party open grills that would work? _________________ Bish a.k.a. Bish

Alesis M1Active520. The best monitors in the world and largely poke proof. About $300 or less. |

Actually Phil, I would consider Bearfoot Sound's Micro Main 27 one of the best monitors in the world, at "Oh Nothing" just $5500.00. Oh and then there is Bowers and Wilkins' 800 series speakers. You'll find these little puppies in mastering stages.
So as long as you understand how your monitors translate to other systems, you can mix with a pair of cruddy computer monitors. But who would ever want to do that?! _________________ The Blog:

Acoustics are counter-intuitive. If one thing is certain about acoustics, it is that if anything seems obvious it is probably wrong. |

Actually the Alesis were on my radar but I couldn't find a pair under $300. The price difference ended up being around $100 so I went with the M-Audio brand..... Still waiting for the other stuff.... |

The Mixer arrived and now I await a mic and the TC Konnekt interface. I just keep looking out the window like a dog waiting for master... |
