Anyone remember the product for which the phrase "Now that's Italian!" was used? I am suddenly obsessed with this Q and foregoing all else. I've had no luck searching on-line. Grazie!

Johsonville Sausage, first use 1989, now abandoned trademark.

Sidebar: Olive Garden uses a branch of that with "That's Italiano!".

I thought it was either Prego spaghetti sauce or Mama Mia's spaghetti sauce. Pretty sure it was Prego. I can visualize the commercial. It had to do with the sauce secretly coming from a jar while the husband exclaims Now that's Italian after tasting it...thinking the wife had made it from scratch. The typical Italian wife is out of husbands view and smiles knowingly as she holds up the jar of Prego. The husband is in blissful ignorance that she didn't make it...it came from a jar.

Yes, that is right,

Johnsonville held the trademark (according to the USPTO) until 1990.

Prego is now owned by Campbell's.

Now that's voice talkin'!

Thanks for that very important information! Now I can get on with life. And btw, jarred sauce in MY house is forbidden. Just the words "jarred sauce" make me shudder.

In my house, Jarred Sauce is a necessity.
We don't have any Italians, dammit.

Why did the Italians lose the war?

They used the ziti instead of the shells.

You know why so many Italians are named Tony?

When they left the old country for Ellis Island, their backs were stamped with TO N.Y.

Thank you very much ladies and gems.

Now that is.....funny! What about the one's stopping in New Jersey.....TO NJ. I guess there were not too many of those.

BTW, I thought Prego was "it's in there".

Me, too. So my query remains, and I'll keep researching. This is very, very, very vital stuff here, people!

*ahem*

It was RAGU

I remember the campaign you're talking about from back in the 70's (I think), but this is a more recent ad.

And that's what I remember, too. My sister said "Wasn't it salad dressing?" and that crossed my mind, too.

Suddenly I'm hungry. Mangia tutti!

Once I can't remember something I haaaaaaavvvvveeeeeee to find the answer. I remember once someone in my family asked who the guy with the big eye brows was on ABC news. We all tried to think of his name for like 4 hours. Finally someone came running in a said "Sam Donaldson!!!!!!". It's just one of those things.

Not really, Frank. They're two different phrases. Ragu apparently left the word "Now" off the slogan, but maybe it was still part of the early scripts (as far as some of us can recollect, that is). The other company came along and put their dibs on the full phrase, which is technically different.

I recently got my knuckles smacked by Cafepress because I designed a sticker that started with the word CAUTION. They explained to me that that one word was trademarked by an underwear company, so I couldn't use it.
