Brilliant,
As a New Orleans native i have often been confused with being from New Yawk! Except for that time when I was living in Minneapolis a pretty little thing asked me, (with a straight face ) "What part of New England is New Orleans"
SMH
Thanks for the education. _________________ Create your own Great Life

After the Saints won the Super Bowl, I voiced a promotional video for a book about the celebration, called "Black & Gold Party Gras." For some reason I will never understand, the specs called for a New York/Brooklyn accent, rather than a New Orleans accent. So that's what I gave them. And as you can hear in the clip, it was a pretty half-assed NY accent at that.

Neutral accents are to the ear of the beholder. It's probably what one grew up with. Asking someone with a "standard " British accent like yours, Philip, and I only speak with my semi-cloistered view, to be "neutral" or "pull back" is an amazing bit of ignorance on the producer's part. Now, if you were a bloody Cockney or a Scottish lass like the one I posted the other day:
https://youtu.be/z6nOgq89HzA
then there's some room for adjustment.

For a great selection of Brits using American accents watch The Walking Dead or Fear the Walking Dead. I couldn't believe how many Brits there are in those shows. |

CNN use a number of satellites to get around the world and I commented on the codes at the top of a promo script which indicated the particular satellites.
"Is there anywhere I can't be heard?"
"No. But that's just a Philip thing" replied Nadia.
I still giggle every time I look at my entry visa to Nepal. On the part recording name of person permitted entry it read simply "Philip"
