Anyone else have experience killing these problems caused by, what I'm assuming, is a windows conflict. From everything I read, Windows SP2 and up causes problems with the Firewire bus speed. I'm having troubles just playing audio back via Windows Media Player. When recording with full latency the audio skips and stops every few seconds.
I understand these are common problems and Mackie support seems to be useless here...

OK, so the Mackie Onyx 1620 mixer rocks! The firewire option is just too flaky though...
I've wasted 10 hours on this today and about 6 hours yesterday. I've gone so far as to get a Texas Instruments based Firewire card from Belkin for an additional $50. It made a difference, but still a lot of pops and clicks and pauses... I've reinstalled Windows XP and turned all services but the essential ones off... spent a couple of hours on the phone with Mackie and it looks like, short of buying a new computer, this isn't going to work for my application.
Too bad... I've got a dual core, Athlon X2 2300 with 4 gig of RAM for the main workstation.
I uninstalled the Mackie Onyx Firewire card and instead re-installed my Mackie Onyx Satellite for I/O purposes and it works flawlessly...
The card is being sent back to the company tomorrow...
