|
|
Hi guys!
I partially went through the search and couldn't find anything about this. But, I might have just missed it, there was so much to go through.
Anybody got any recommendations on free email spam filters that I could try? One of my email address has a really poor spam filtering mode, so I'd welcome any suggestions.
Thanks, (and sorry for the reposting if this is the case)!
cheers............. _________________ Intuit and do it!

Stefania,
One free solution would be to use GoogleMail (also known as Gmail). You can set it up to retrieve your email from your existing server. Excellent spam filtering, free and with the ability to access your email from any Internet connect with a browser anywhere in the world. _________________ Be well,

You Service provider should have some system in place to reduce the volume of SPAM you get. Have you talked to them? It may just be a matter of turning it on or configuring it to work better?
Running something on your computer is the last thing you want to do.. IE adding yet another program to your computer on top of all the others.
I have multiple email addy's, but the two ISP's I use have very good software in place that eliminates 99% of the junk mail.
If it is a National freebee account you may have no options like this.
Good Luck! |

Thanks for your help guys. I checked and it looks like it's a possibility to have mail from there forwarded via Hotmail as well.
I've contacted the peeps in charge of this email account, to check if it can be done and if the email is POP3 or non POP3.
Thanks............

I second Bob's Gmail solution.
I rarely have trouble with spam since using Gmail. Occasionally a legit letter gets snagged, but if you add the sender to your contacts list, if usually takes care of things just the way you want it.

Brilliant! I've got a Google account as well. I'll give it a try. right now the Servers not even connecting to the email, so I don't know what they're up to. Maybe they're doing maintenance.
But I'll give it a go, when it's up and running again.
thx!

Stef, whatever you do, do NOT use Hotmail for anything professional!!
Professionally-speaking, if you have your own website, use the e-mail for your domain.
Technically speaking, using Hotmail, AOL or Yahoo! is the worst decision you can make, because ALL of those services (as well as the AT&T / SBC family of ISPs) do a lot of behind-the-scenes BLOCKING of e-mail that you never know about.
In other words, if a client you don't know sends a message to you, and those ISPs decide to block it, you'll never know it happened unless the person knows that it didn't get to you and calls you about it. But, if a person looking for you for voice work gets a bounce message...do you think they're more likely to go back, look up your phone number and call you, or do you think they're more likely to assume that your e-mail address no longer works and that they shouldn't bother wasting any more time on it?
Often times, there's nothing a sender can do to get mail to you, even if you whitelist them (Yahoo!'s whitelisting feature is outright broken and does not work, period, if Yahoo! has randomly blocked a sending IP address from sending to Yahoo! recipients; AT&T/SBC uses a system by Symantec called Brightmail that is also broken and cannot be gotten around...and neither Symantec or AT&T will even tell a sender WHY their mail was blocked).
To date, Gmail hasn't had these kinds of issues (this includes both gmail.com addresses and using Gmail for mail at your own domain). _________________ Lou Zucaro

GoDaddy's email service is an indiscriminate bouncer, too.
That's why I've got Gmail now. _________________ DBCooperVO.com

Oh Lou and DB, thank you so much for that warning.
It makes me wonder, cause two things have been emailed to me -- sound files and a script and I didn't get either. Wonder if that's what was going on.
It wasn't hotmail or yahoo though, it some system called Smarter Mail or Smart Mail (its hooked up to my 'stefsvoice.com' site). Not very smart though, the spam system is very weak.
I'll try to hook it up with the gmail option.
thanks again...

A bit late here, but I use a program called MailWasher that filters spam pretty well...it lets you see and mark for deletion all msgs you don't want to get and thus you only download what you want.
