Well I've had AA2.0 on my DAW here at the office for over a year. No crashes, no lockups, no glitches of any kind whatsoever.

I have AA3.0 at home on my Vista machine...my machine that runs everything...and no trouble there, either.

I would venture to guess a hardware issue with your audio hardware rather than something in the Audition software itself, to be honest (flaky drivers that don't play too nicely with memory, IRQs, etc.).

And yes, save often, regardless of what type of software, whether Audition, Word, Photoshop. And remember, "Save as..." is even MORE your friend Smile

Resurrecting an older thread here.

I have just downloaded the demo AA 3.0. I'm wanting to compare it with the Sound Forge I am currently using. The problem is the demo doesn't come with an instruction manual. I think I can get my hands on AA 2.0 Classroom in a Book.

My question: Is the difference between V2 and V3 enough so that the book won't be helpful?

Reason #1: Many icons have been switched or changed from their convenient places, referring to AA1.5

Reason #2: Many controls and setups have changed from the previously familiar locations.

Reason #3: AA 2.0 and 3.0 take immense time to learn and digest (similar to Protools).

There are more but I wont bore you with the dictionary length diatribe.

Pro's to 3.0 SOME better effects, ASIO 2.0, able to monitor tracks in real time, support for MIDI, , better support for surround sound. These are about of the pluses I can think of, so it is your choice.

Sound Forge is a good product, there are limitations however, Vegas is very highly touted and used product for video and audio. Vegas is also mainly designed for multitrack audio (music recording) and sweetening of video tracks. I use and love it.

I guess I'm a Neanderthal. I'm still using version 1.0 a/k/a Cool Edit 2000 and don't have any plans to upgrade.

AA 1.0 for me, too. Works flawlessly. I've used all the other usual suspects, and the simplicity of AA 1.0 just allows me to do whatever job I need to do without thinking a whole lot.

The only editor I like better is the Orban Audicy...at $15,000!!

Just agreeing with Frank here. I like 1.5 best, 2.0 sucks, 3.0 is pretty okay. I have 1.5 and 3.0 loaded and still use 1.5 most of the time. There is some functionality in 3.0 I need from time to time producing but for basic voice stuff I stick with 1.5. The interface is so much easier to use.

well ... i actually like v3 ... i still use 1.5 on my laptop - but pretty much 3 on my primary work station. i think they fixed most of the problems with v2 and added some of the neat functionality that frank spoke of. HOWEVER (and there is always a however in life) if i had it to do all over again, the last version i would have purchased would have been 1.5

I have been using V2 since it first came out and I have not experienced any of the problems I've seen mentioned here. It has performed flawlessly for me. Let me preface that with, I have not ever used V 1.5, so I don't know what I was missing. I've thought about upgrading to V3, but keep asking myself why? I have zero problems with V2.

Yeah, I think you have to keep in mind that the naysayers here are mostly naysaying with COMPARISONS to previous versions.

I never used AA previous to v2 so I have no frame of reference from that standpoint. I have been using v2 for over a year without ever having read a manual or help file, so that should be worth something, I guess.

And v3 seems to be pretty similar to v2 (I have v3 at home) so again, I dunno why people are so against v2.

What all of this comes down to is how YOU use Audition and how the different versions will affect that.

If you're mostly just recording, putting some effects on, doing a little light mixing like me, than either will likely be good (v2 or v3). But if you're doing much more complicated stuff than that, you may want to ask somebody who specifically does that stuff.

Mind my words, SC and Adobe ARE suffering because of greed. I may be old, fat, and sassy, BUT I have been around the block and more than once I have seen the same signs from companies large and small as they self-destruct over business basics.

But, who am I? I have been told (now more than once by members of this board) that "I do not know anything". So why listen/read posts to/from me?

Frank, I hope you weren't implying that I was saying you don't know anything since I said nothing of the kind.

My point is that different doesn't necessarily equal bad, especially if you didn't know the old one in the first place.
