So... I'm working on a 45-second project for one of my clients...

The copy is pretty well written, but its at least 55 to 60 seconds worth of text!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can manage to read it in the necessary 45-seconds (barely), but it loses all of its sparkle because I'm sooo damn concerned with the timing! It's definately not a candidate for time compression, since it's a good 5 - 10 seconds too long!

IT'S DRIVING ME INSANE!!!!! Sticking out Tongue

Anyway, I just wanted to share, since I felt that a 10-minute break was necessary so my head didn't explode!

Thanks for listenin' ....er I mean reading.

"I can either read it fast or read it well."

Now I know most of us can read fast AND well, but trying to jam 55 seconds of sh*t into a 45-second bag doesn't serve anyone's purpose, and by "purpose" I mean "attempt to make the client's business more successful".

It is insanity.

Ever get one of those depression research thingies that have been going around?

The last one I did was a reasonable :30 that I managed alright. But the :15 was absolutely 2 seconds too long after many takes. I finally went through and started removing space between syllables.

Have yet to hear whether they're going to accept it. I just don't get how they expect to snag depressed subjects for their studies when the ad goes by too fast for the human ear. The sound of it would make anyone lose their will to live.

But 15 seconds too long - what the heck do you do with that? Maybe speed it up in post just to show them how ridiculous they're being?

Okay maybe not.

Anything over 3 seconds too long for a 60 gets kicked back, in my humble opinion.

I love the AEs who want you to "add acting": to too-long copy.

"Make it sound delicious".
