Anybody using one of these or anything similar?

http://www.rolls.com/product.php?pid=MS111

I don't really need a mixer, but I would like a better way to turn my mic off to listen to monitors without turning mic gain down every time. I'm assuming that when it says it will pass phantom power that means it DOES NOT turn off phantom power?

Thoughts and or other products please?

Thanks,

Craig

I've built units like this in the past... a quick peek at the manual tells me that the switch is probably in the very signal path, but I'd guess there's a high value resistor over the switching contacts, so hardly any signal bleeds into the path when the resistor is selected. I'd very much doubt that phantom power is ever switched, for switching DC always involves heavvy pops and temporary current peaks that can at least harm your speakers for instance. I think it can be a great unit but I have no experience in actually using one. Hope it helps... You might also want to check out THIS LINK for it has other types of units with similar functions.

I have a couple of Pro Co "Cough Drops" AKA Sign Off mic foot switches on the shelf at home, new in the box.
$50 each, if you are interested...

That's a fair offer George. Let me think about that a minute.

Is there such an animal that will also mute the monitors while the mic is on and vice- versa?

Ah, now THAT'S an interesting device indeed. That's what an on-air broadcast console does automatically.
Need something like this I believe...

Might be overkill, but I think it would be more costly and time consuming to make a device yourself that does the same thing. If you are handy with a soldering iron, hobby boxes, and basic electronics, it could be done in a few hours. How much is your "few hours" worth?
