My biggest confusion is the RSS feed. How do I know if it's working correctly. When I click on the link on my page, the feed shows an old blog post and I have to hit refresh to get it to the current one.
Also, how do I see all my subscriptions on one page? Right now I have them all on the Feeds tab next to my Favorites drop down. But they are all seperate links, not all visible on one page. |

Hey James -
Great idea geting this started on the VO-BB!!!
I don't have your answers to your feed and subscription questions...I haven't made the jump over to wordpress.org just yet... I am still on wordpress.com. Perhaps someone else can chime in, I would love to learn.
I have begun a switch to www.stugray.com/blog from thecreativemouthpiece.wordpress.com...(its not "official" yet, but it is running in the "background" until I am ready to switch over) The question I have is for webdesign types...I would love my blog to have the same look as my web page(shell), but don't know the 'technical stuff' to make that happen. I have a theme right now that is ok, but I think a consistent look is really important.
I also have to learn all of my plugin needs as well...so I am going thru a learning curve right now. |

Wow CC...thanks.
I saw Askimet sitting there and never added it. I just never really got too much spam. So I added it and notice that something had been blocking comments on it's own, including comments from friends here in this group.
Not sure what I had blocking it, but I'm glad you got me to add Askimet. _________________ http://www.jameslorenz.com/notjustvoiceover |

Akismet blocks those nasty porn spammers who litter comments with the grossest junk. It has blocked several thousand for me since I added it in April.
I also use Sociable, to add social networking sites like "Digg" etc., as well as Wordpress Automatic Upgrade (but be sure and follow all their directions when you use it);
Wordpress.com stars (for stats you can see);
and I make full use of the Media Center portion to post my videos, etc.
Others I have installed and use are:
AskApache password protect, FD Feedburner Plugin, as well as Feedburner Feedsmith.
I'm still playing with others, like PodPress, but haven't added them in permanently yet. I'm about to go get something to help me manage GoogleAds, which I've had turned off for a while.
That's about it, so far.

James, DB, Thank you for this "area" for bloggers. And CC- you're such a vast wealth of knowledge. Thanks for sharing it here. _________________ Bobbin Beam

As I said, post here what you'd like me to add under your name in the first post.
I'll edit it the first chance I get. _________________ http://www.jameslorenz.com/notjustvoiceover |

James, about Akismet -- you have to be careful with it at first. I've actually accidentally done the same thing you did... but once you get it going, it's great. You have NO idea how nice it is to simply delete the nasty guys (and if you've seen any of the porn spam, you know what I'm talking about). It does learn quickly -- not sure about it being one day... once I've marked somebody as "NOT spam" it seems to work pretty quickly. Of course, I only get one or two comments every other eon or so... _________________ Charter Member: Threadjackers Local 420 |
