After lots of discussion and years of procrastination, I finally moved ahead on redoing my little recording space where I do most of my work. I've been working out of a large 3-sided 4 ft by 6 foot foam room with a 4 x 4 foam roof - toiling under the notion that if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

The construction is done - the insulation installed. The power re-routed. This J shaped area is how I have been configured for a while with the portable foam testing the concept.

The upholsterer will button it up like an overstuffed couch as soon as I track down 28 yards of fabric. That's for the ceiling of the entire 11 x 17 foot space, not just the walls of the little 3 x 6 booth area. Right now it has exposed pink insulation.

I've been working out of my ISDN closet on my laptop all week - which is about the same size. Yes, I have two spaces - it's complicated...that one isn't set up to record - and there isn't enough space or a desk to do any editing if I was set up to record. But it works great for ISDN sessions.

Boy, there must be something in the air— Camp Cooper is getting a massive makeover too!

I've decided that my WWII era government issue oak desk shouldn't dictate the way I use my space any more.

I don't have any pix as spiffy as Connie's— not yet!

How exciting! I'm starting the design process now for my new studio too. If it's not in the air it must be in the water.

Connie,

It looks like it's going to be wonderful when it's all finished.

Connie,
'Hope you're taking pics all along the way... 'makes for fascinating blogs, articles, points-of-discussion on the VO-BB, and helps you realize how far you've come with each step.

So.... keep the pics coming.

Very cool Connie... I'm sure it will be worth the wait and inconvenience.
Looking forward to seeing the new studio (photos)

Does that mean you're going with a new desk, or just changing other items?

Audio desks are fun, but pricey.

New desk.
I'll start my own thread when I get working on moving the old one out!

Pretty wild - I also decided yesterday that my "FROG" room (over garage) was going to have to be whipped into shape for the real deal. I had an ISDN session at Screen Gems Studios yesterday (NorthStar Post actually, on the studio lot) and took careful note of their layout and such, and figgered that now was the time as things are starting to move forward.

Since my dad is a builder/carpenter I'll have that going for me (tho I do plan to pay him, most likely over his loud objections Smile ) but I want to make sure I do it right, also the room needs to quadruple as office and music listening/record collection/musical instruments/live recording space for my music, but I think I can come up with something that'll be appropriate and groovy.

I'm adding Source Connect first, then if certain gigs come thru that I am hoping for (retainer situations) then I will be going ISDN.

SO we shall see what we shall see.

Good luck Connie with the renovation, hope it comes out how you want...

I want to know more about those "library-effect" diffusers. Awesome!
