I bought an iPod for my daughter 4 years ago, when she left for university. I like new toys. Me? Most of my music is on CD's. Until recently, I wasn't feeling any particular motivation to migrate my listening habits (I most often listen to AM radio when not tuned to NPR, or the local FM jazz or rock station). Does that mean I'm getting old? That was rhetorical humor.

Obviously, the portable mp3 player's here. So, how about you? Do you own and use a portable digital music player?

My iRiver mp3 player's battery is crapping out. Just after the warranty expired, of course. Cheapest I've found a replacement battery is about $40, and it's not a quick swap...it takes a fair amount of careful disassembly.

I did find an unofficial replacement guide...now to actually acquire the smegging battery.

I thought about getting an Ipod, and stil might when, or maybe if, the price drops. But in the car I always listen to the radio (not to the music so much, but to the imaging, commercials, jock banter). My cd player rarely gets used.

I have 120 gig or so of music on hard drive at home, and most of that duplicated at the office so I just use my computers when I want to hear "my music."

I got an iPod for Christmas and it has completely changed the way I approach my music, from my listening habits to my drumming practice.
I also get to enjoy NPR programs I might have missed over the weekends if they are set up as Podcasts.

I also have my whole address book in it and my calendar.
Pretty nif-tee.

There's so much more to it, but I'm too busy using it to figure out how to use it. or somethihng.

I have a Creative MuVo TX FM. The only downside is the battery life is short, but it takes regular AAA batteries so I can use rechargeables or buy some at the store in a pinch.

It also doubles as a flash drive for my files which I love and has a built in voice recorder for the occassional 'Note to Self.'

Now I can listen to Howard or archives of my own show to feed my narcissistic nature. Laugh

I'm sure I'll get an iPod one of these days, but I'm waiting for the increase in features and the decrease in price to hit some magical point.

By the way, can you really watch and enjoy a TV show on a screen that's smaller than a business card? I believe there are better ways to make yourself go blind. cool

Bwah!

I can't imagine really using it as a video screen, but it might be convenient for checking on which video file it is you've got-- Like if you're sharing project files.

I get a kick out of album art showing up when I play a song on the iPod.

fixed a blessed typo

I own a Sony Digital Discman that I got for Christmas a few years ago. I am able to take MP3s from the computer, download them onto these teeny little disks and play it in the Discman, but I've never used the bloody thing. I haven't even learned how.

Sad huh?

I'll take 2.

Hey, Anthony. I really dig the Trance music on your website. Great effect with the VO.

FWIW, Everything I've heard about the video ipod from people who own one, is that the picture is amazing and that because of that fact, the small size of the screen isn't that much of an issue. Haven't seen one myself yet to judge.

As for a portable player, I did get an ipod mini as a premium a year or so ago. It is great, and I actually used it a couple of times. However, I came to the conclusion that I didn't really need it when I realized that I had recharged it more often that I had used it. Sadly, that's no exaggeration. I ended up giving it to my daughter this past Christmas just so it would get some use...and it certainly is. She loves it.
