I earned a speeding ticket today, New Years Day of all days, I've made the first (and last) contribution to the social order for 2006.

Good heavens.

It's an aberration.

Not at all a portent of what the New Year will bring.

At least you earned it... unlike most of us who get one without even trying.

Ya know that Sammy Hagar song "I Can't Drive 55??" Well I can, and do, that's not my problem...it's just that so many cops hang out in those 35 mph zones...

Sorry for your ticket. It's a sucky way to start a new year. Did you get the ticket on the express way, a city street or spycam at an intersection?

On I-75 between here and Atlanta you'd better keep up or get run over. <g> Then, when you get outside of the city it's impossible to go more than 30 MPH.

It was actually on the Dulles Toll Road, it's the airport access which has a local access routes along side the highway. I was just about to hop on 66 into DC. I'm no stranger to the police, I had a ticket for 137mph on my motorcycle back in 1997, the police officer actually failed to appear in court, the judge had some "special" words for me and me alone ... then said the officer was going to pay dearly for not showing up.....

I have fond memories of a court appearance connected with Rte 66. Happened to get on it during the HOV-2 time-of-day to go to an appointment with the obstetrician. At the time, I didn't even know what HOV meant and did not see any signs anyway. I got a ticket. I had thoughts of saying that I was a high-occupancy vehicle all by myself, since I was expecting twins, but never got the chance to open my mouth - they dismissed me. I never knew why, but it was probably because of insufficient signage. Phew.

Maybe you'll get lucky too, somehow.

The Dulles Access Toll Road is a scary place. I landed at Dulles around 4AM one trip last year and picked up my rental at Hertz - got the computer printout with directions down to Stafford where my dad lives - and spent the next hour going around in circles on the access road trying to find 267 (or whatever number it is) - I could see signs and it would look like it was the other direction. So I got off the road I was on and turned around - paying toll each time I got on and off. Of course, it turns out I was ON the darn road the entire time. It just didn't say so!

I swear that the roads and signs in that area are like the staircases at Hogwarts.

Yep. When I saw "HOV" I thought it meant "Human Occupied Vehicles". See, I was once into bicycles and motorcycles and ... well you get the idea. I managed to get out of the lane without a ticket.
