I have an AOL address but rarely sign on to them. I have it bounced over to my mac mail and manage it from there. _________________ Pam Tierney

I use a free AOL web-mail account that I'm slowly phasing out. _________________ Chris Rice - Noisemaker

I also have a web based free account, with gmail picking up anything that lands in the inbox. Biggest use is for AIM, but I won't download anything! All web based for me.
I use meebo, a web based IM that allows me to log onto multiple IM clients with a single click. _________________ Mary |

The Mac equivalent to Trillium is Adium— it collects IM stuff from all accounts.
Back to the AOL thing:
I'm just interested in knowing who uses AOL email— and if there are links in your mail, does clicking them take you to the net thru AOL's browser?
There are prickly issues with that damned Gated Community of the Internet browser setup. _________________ DBCooperVO.com

AOL is hardly political.
or is it—am I missing something?
heh.
It's the 3rd-largest ISP— I just wonder who, if anyone, uses its browser. _________________ DBCooperVO.com

I believe some of that size comes from their partnership with Time Warner. _________________ Try to imagine a world where there is no such thing as hypothetical situations.

Deebs,
To answer your question as best as I can, I would believe the answer would be "yes". As long as I can remember, AOL has striven to be everything to everybody. Since there is a browser that comes with the AOL "suite", then my assumption is that it would be the case that the AOL browser would be opened once you click on a link from your email within the AOL program itself.
I used it for a while on my Powerbook back in '04 when I did a lot of traveling and I ended up using the dial-up portion of AOL and using Safari for surfing. Since I don't actively use my AOL email, I haven't actually encountered the scenario about which you're asking.
Not helpful, probably, but I just woke up from a nap. _________________ Greg Littlefield

I didn't pose my question very well.
clicking a link in an AOL email will take you to the AOL browser by default, I do know that.
I just wonder how many people leave it that way.
Can't you choose another browser as your default?
Or do AOL users have to cut and past URLs? _________________ DBCooperVO.com

It's been several years since I used AOL but IIRC, and assuming it hasn't changed, I think you can change your default browser but they make it fairly difficult to find the option for you to do so. Seems like its two or three levels deep into a preference page. So, can you? I think so. Do many people? I don't know. _________________ Hart Voice Overs Blog

I just have a knee-jerk reaction to an AOL email address. I know AOL isn't the same beginner's internet/email experience that it was 15 years ago, but to me it still has that clueless aura about it. I have an agent who still uses an AOL email address, and it just screams "unprofessional".
And apparently AOL still has a cap on the size of file attachments. On more than one occasion I've gotten an "undeliverable" error message for a fairly benign MP3 attachment.
