VO-BB - 19 YEARS OLD!

The turkey and most of the goodies are already prepared...a few last minute items in the morning...and it'll be a wonderful lazy day with one of our boys and the only grandson. Something of an empty house this year since the other 4 sons and the baby girl live out of state and can't make it this year. Even so...we still cooked as if everyone would be here!

And in keeping with the season...I submit the following to aid your festivities:

The turkey shot out of the oven
and rocketed into the air,
it knocked every plate off the table
and partly demolished a chair.

It ricocheted into a corner and
burst with a deafening boom,
then splattered all over the kitchen,
completely obscuring the room.

It stuck to the walls and the windows,
it totally coated the floor,
there was turkey attached to the ceiling, where there'd never been turkey before.

It blanketed every appliance,
it smeared every saucer and bowl,
there wasn't a way I could stop it,
that turkey was out of control.

I scraped and I scrubbed with displeasure,
and thought with chagrin as I mopped,
that I'd never again stuff a turkey
with popcorn that hadn't been popped.

If turkeys thought
they'd run away
a week before Thanksgiving day

but turkeys can't anticipate
and so there's turkey
on my plate.

What great prose! The only turkey stuffing we do takes place when the meal is served....we use a fork and dive in!

BTW, what do those of you who celebrate Thanksgiving usually serve for the meal besides turkey? Here's what we have on the menu:
smoked turkey
sugar cured ham
home made mashed potatoes
glazed carrots
sweet corn
home made snowflake rolls
green beans
pumpkin pie with whipped topping
swedish apple pie with vanilla glaze (sis-in-law is from Sweden)

This will be the first Holiday that my entire family has been together in 7 years. I am really looking forward to it. Have a great Thanksgiving and/or an awesome Thursday!

I'll be doing a little work in the morning, then going to have dinner with some friends of my mother-in-law who graciously invite us every year.

We take a lemon tart and lots of wine.

Deirdre, Thanksgiving thoughts go out to you especially, as this board has been a great support to me and I have met many new friends and colleagues here.
