Just a little story:

Earlier this year I did a 3-spot campaign for NYC in Spanish. The director was cool, the engineer was great, and the facility was great... but, most importantly, the money was useful.

Anyway, about a month ago, I got a call from one of the agents I freelance with and told me that they wanted to do another campaign. It didn't happen... they cancelled the Spanish sessions.

In any case, this morning I'm listening to my shower radio and I hear a new Spanish campaign for them... and guess who's voice is on the spot? The director.

Oh - that hurt. I guess they saved money.

Ouch!... I've had exactly the same thing happen to me a couple of times, believe it or not! It stings a bit at first, but then you move on and invoice the next client!

There loss is still your gain!

Ditto here...voiced a local car spot for eons.....latest spot has the general manager's voice (definitely NOT a VO talent) !!!

I should have bartered a deal that I wouldn't try to sell cars, if HE wouldn't try to do voiceovers Smile

So often in smaller markets they'll hire a VO guy to do the male reads and get "the girl down the hall" to do the female reads.

Ickle.

Definite ouch.

I think I mentioned this earlier in my report on the day from Heck - the end-client decided he wanted his own voice to narrate his piece. My client sent me a copy "just to show you how bad it sounds". It was truly terrible. I still got paid, but it didn't make the pain go away

that's the whole thing i think - my pride was hurt... and as any human being I started to think of what was wrong with my reads.... But that didn't last long - you can drown in self-doubt.
