I've been meaning to come up with a solid two to five-year marketing plan so I snooped around online looking for some good templates. Most of them were long-winded and, for lack of a better term, sucky. I found a blog with a template for The World's Shortest Marketing Plan. I filled it out and it was okay but it didn't challenge me. I want something that will really force me to examine my values and my goals. Do you guys have marketing plans? If so, how did you craft them? Please share! _________________ Tom Dheere - The "H" is Silent, but I'm Not!

Tom,
What a great question. I can't wait to read what the pros on this board have to say on this topic.
By the way, from what I've been reading, you've been having a pretty amazing year. Care to share the marketing plans that have gotten you this far? _________________ Joe Rodriguez, Bilingual Voice Actor | The Voiceover Thespian Blog |

Yes, this has been my best year ever. There wasn't much to my action plan. I checked certain websites every day, went on agent interviews, and auditioned online as much as possible. The key was being consistent and relentless. That and not making excuses, or at least trying not to. Some weeks were better than others.
But you know what? I know I can do more and do it better. That's why I'm always bugging you guys about coming up with new ways to ply my trade. I don't think I'll ever be satisfied with my website, my demos, or my marketing strategy. There's always room for improvement.
When it comes right down to it, I think the secret is to have a plan, any plan, and to hold yourself accountable to it. _________________ Tom Dheere - The "H" is Silent, but I'm Not!

First thing to change is where you look (websites) and with whom you meet as you are spending time talking to re-sellers or wholesalers. Talk to buyers and so-called "centres of influence". the latter have no personal stake in your success but they like to know ...."a man who can".
At this stage in your career your ability as a voice over should be a given, what you need to do is get people to buy you not a voice over. |
