The documentary Forgotten Ellis Island, for which Bruce, Drew and I performed various historical voices, is premiering on Ellis Island on 22 October. A screening in Boston has just been announced as well: it will be at the Museum of Fine Arts on Sunday 28 October at noon.
Ticket information is here. Scroll wa-a-a-ay down to find the listing. |

I certainly hope none of you tried to attend this screening at 2 pm today.
It was at NOON.
I hadn't written anything down and somehow the screening of my other documentary that showed at the Berkshire Museum 3 weeks ago at 2 pm replaced this one in my mind. Somewhere around Framingham a cold fear suddenly gripped me: is this thing really at 2 pm or is it at noon? Of course it's not at noon I told myself. Who shows a film at noon on a Sunday?
I was so furious at myself. But rather than stand around kicking myself I called Peter O'Connell, who was just getting out of his podcasting convention at the Boston Convention Center and I drove over to see him - without even getting lost!!! I reached for my camera so I would be able to take the obligatory photo -
No camera.
I had left the ####ing camera at the Museum.
So I calls the MFA and by some miracle, somebody had already found it and turned it in, so if I could get back there by closing time I could get it. That gave me only 45 minutes to visit with Peter, but that was way better than nothing! It was so good to renew that connection, especially when I needed a friend to make me forget what a total idiot I can be sometimes.
I got back to the Museum with a few minutes to spare - also without getting lost - and it really was my camera, with my pictures of my dog and my trip to Ellis Island in it just like I left 'em.
I really did see Peter, and if anybody says, without a photo it doesn't count, I will find that person and hurt them.
End of pity rant. Tomorrow is a new day. And except for being reminded in excruciating detail that I have too much on my mind, it was actually a good day, since I got to see Peter and I got my Nikon digital SLR back from an incredibly good Samaritan and I navigated around Boston a LOT and its big bad streets did not get me no matter how hard they tried. Heh. |

Mary,
Having had my own personal encounter with Peter (and a near miss a second time), I certainly believe you, photo or no. And thanks for the wonderfully detailed story. I'm so glad to know that you got to see Peter, retrieved your camera and made it through Boston without getting lost. Good for you on all counts. _________________ Be well,
