Get a private from Voice last week, yes?
To read - like a friendly lion - for a set of rhyming children's books.
Wednesday, clients tell me I'm in the final two and ask for another read.
No prob. I mean, this is fun, right?

Thursday, they graciously tell me they've opted for a female voice. Fine; it happens. We win some, we lose some. Everybody's happy. Everybody's still friends.

Friday, an absolute newcomer happily crows on a chat site that he got a job as a friendly lion for a set of children's books.

He's no female. He's no lion. He's barely a VO. He doesn't come up on any Voice search.

I'm mystified. And very. very curious.

Has anybody else out there been involved with this project, or have any idea of what in thunderation is going on?

It's goofy that they'd fib to you.

Don't sweat it. It's like they wanted someone taller, with more hair.

Thanks DB...
I've lost jobs before. I've been fibbed-to before.
But I've never been sitting there in the studio and then had the pizza-delivery guy get the job before.
That's what's got me discombobulated.

And then - to top it all off - I was outbid on e-bay for some acoustic foam.
And then, as if that wasn't enough, She Who Must Be Obeyed forgot to put the beer in the fridge.

The pain...the pain.

Frightful week-end, really.

There's no accounting for taste, God knows.
File it under WTF and forget it.
The dopes.

And I kinda think the refrigerator opens under your hand as well, so my sympathy is a bit lean in re the beer issue.

Kiss Kiss Kiss Kiss Kiss

No, no...of course, DB.

I'm well able and Renaissance Man enough to put the beer in the fridge. Goodness, yes.

Only she won't tell me where she stores it.

Sorry about the Canadiens not making the playoffs Robert. Frown
Doesn't get much worse for them than losing to the Toronto Maple Leafs to bow out, eh?

Join the Buffalo bandwagon! cool

Not to get rinky-dink about this whole thing, but I am now an official Ottawa Senator fan.
After 35 years of hockey fan-dom, I have come to realize that:
a) the current Sabres have the best voice imaging in the history of the business, and
b) while no Californian hockey team will ever win the Stanley Cup, the state's voice talents are champions in every league, and
c) when your team loses, you gotta do a lot of tush-kissing

RJ (Rick Jeanneret) is a legend behind the mic for the Sabres:

Where she stores the fridge? Have you looked in the kitchen? It's like a big box with a door on the front.

Ha ha.

Sorry that happened Robert. I saw that... thought you handled it gracefully. That just stinks. People lie. It's weird.

Bummer about the beer... my hubby has the same issues with me... only I'll forget to buy the beer!! See, at least your other half bought it!! Smile

Now, being outbid on eBay... THAT would have been the thing to send me over the edge. It has in the past. I feel for you!!
It's a new week!!!

You know, I can't particularly call Napoleon Bonaparte a role model or anything, but he did say something very quotable once: "Never ascribe to malice that which can adequately be explained by incompetence." I actually recite this quote to myself three or four times a week. Usually on the Interstate. In rush hour.

But anyway! How this relates: I'd bet this was just a very misguided attempt to 'soften the blow' of rejection. They probably didn't think in terms of 'lying,' but in terms of consolation. They don't understand VOs develop thick skins and small communities. It was a thoughtless gesture, but not a spiteful one. *shrug* My $.02.

Eh. Brush it off. Your lion was probably so incredibly dead-on realistic, they were afraid it would frighten the children. Wink
