What microphone do you want to modify and what are you trying to achieve? It ain't an easy thing to do--other than switching out tubes--which is why it is so expensive. |

TOP PRO TIP
Save money on mic mods simply by purchasing the correct mic in the first place.
This top pro tip was brought to you by The Keystore, Portgordon - your local convenience store. |

Yeah, but it so much more gratifying to create a tool that sounds as good as perhaps a $3,000 mic for only hundreds....at least in your own mind. _________________ Wild Willie Edwards

Does anyone REALLY think that a cheap microphone can sound like an expensive microphone for a few extra bucks? If so, I would love to talk about some land in Florida with you... |

I think it's fun to play with. You can get an Apex or MXL mic for $150 (or less) - tinker with it a bit - get a Neumann U87/U67 capsule for $150 - $200 and not only have a great mic - but a nice project as well.
I bought a MXL tube mic for less than $300 - and it sounded ok - I replaced the tube and it sounded far better than ok. Somewhere in this forum there is a side-by-side test.
I guess it's just what you're in to. _________________ "i know philip banks": todd ellis

I'd ask that same question at studioforums.com - Jowillie posted the link above. You'll probably get 100 answers. _________________ "i know philip banks": todd ellis
